  • Women are the fastest-growing incarcerated population
  • ~600 women give birth in U.S. jails and prisons each year
  • Women make up only 7% of the prison population but account for 46% of sexual abuse cases

This is the first of three sessions exploring national, state, and local data on incarceration, with a focus on issues like childbirth and sexual assault inside jails and prisons.
