William Wetsel Middle School in Madison County, Virginia, is making waves with its innovative Teens Teach Tech program. Led by business and family consumer sciences teacher, Miss Laura Daniel, and supported by dedicated students from the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter, this initiative aims to bridge the digital divide by empowering parents and community members with essential technology skills.
The program, supported by AT&T and Connected Nation, involves students teaching adults how to navigate various digital tools, such as PowerSchool and email systems. The goal is to enhance digital literacy within the community, ensuring everyone can access important information and resources. The students, including FBLA President Serenity, Vice President Reva, and former President Lane, are passionate about making a difference and have already faced and overcome challenges related to scheduling and generating interest.
Through their efforts, the Teens Teach Tech program is set to become a staple in the community, fostering teamwork, leadership, and technological proficiency. The program not only benefits the participants but also strengthens the bonds within the community, making technology accessible to all.
