VCWP Charlottesville Center Manager, Brookes, presents at LVCA’s Mini-Conference 2025.

Virginia Career Works – Piedmont proudly participated in the 2025 Literacy For All Mini Conference on Saturday, June 28, hosted by Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle, with a presentation by Brookes Sims, VCWP Charlottesville Center Manager.

Sims led a session titled “From Earning to Learning: Resources to Support Student Success,” which focused on connecting adult learners and literacy students with the tools they need to transition to meaningful employment. The workshop provided an overview of local workforce services, including job readiness workshops, hiring events, training opportunities, and supportive programs available through Virginia Career Works and its partners. “Our goal is to bridge the gap between learning and earning,” said Sims. “By equipping students with the right resources and support systems, we help them move confidently into the workforce and build sustainable career paths.”

The session also offered practical tools and referral strategies for educators, tutors, and community advocates to better support their learners’ personal and professional growth.
